A 22-year-old newly married woman was first poisoned and then bludgeoned to death allegedly by her husband over a dispute in a field near Jaipur, police said on Wednesday.

In an apparent U-turn, husband Raju Bairwa on Wednesday admitted to have killed his wife Mamta after narrating a different version to the police on Tuesday.

It is not even a month since the victim was murdered brutally in an agriculture field in Phagi, 51km from Jaipur, they said, adding, they had gotten married on May 2.

Raju had on Tuesday framed a different story that he along with his wife were returning home from his in-laws house on a motorbike when they were attacked by unknown assailants.

He had further told police that in the attack Mamta sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead and he later got discharged, they said.

However, on Wednesday he took a U-turn and surrendered before police and recorded a new statement.

During the interrogation he disclosed that it was he who murdered his wife with whom he was upset over some issue, they said.
