Jakhar removes Rewa varsity V-C

AVADESH PRATAP Singh University, Rewa, Vice-Chancellor Dr A D N Vajpayee was on Saturday removed after failing to satisfy the Raj Bhavan about the various irregularities charges against him.

The sacking came after the report of the three-member inquiry committee headed by former chief secretary K S Sharma, Governor and Chancellor Balram Jakhar issued formal orders in this regard.

The head of department of Environmental Science Department of the University Prof R N Shukla has been appointed as the acting V-C till the appointment of a regular V-C.

The Raj Bhavan had issued a show cause notice to Vajpayee on December 9 to reply within two weeks. The chancellor was not convinced with his reply.

Vajpayee was facing a number of financial, administrative and academic irregularities allegation. Sharma committee had pointed out some ‘grave academic omissions’ by Vajpayee and had found some financial irregularities allegations to be true. The academic irregularities mainly pertained to awarding of Ph D degrees and irregularities in revaluation.

The high-level inquiry was ordered in September last week. The other members of the committee were retired IPS official G S Mathur and retired bureaucrat J P Vyas. The committee had submitted its report in the last week of November.

Former BJP legislator Ramanand Singh had made a number of allegations against him.

TENURE OF DAVV COMMITTEE EXTENDED: Meanwhile, the tenure of the search committee for the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, led by former chief justice of India Justice JS Verma has been extended by two weeks. The six-week tenure of the committee had ended this week. The search panel for the Rani Durgavati University, Gwalior, headed by former chief justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Arun Saharia has meanwhile submitted its report last week.
