As the admission process for the various graduate courses in Jammu University begun on Monday, students were seen rushing to colleges to make queries regarding their courses of choice.
This year, two colleges - Women College Gandhi nagar and Science College have introduced English Honours. Though Honours in English and Commerce was sanctioned by the university two years ago, the two colleges have began the admission to Honours in English from this year.
"Obviously it's very beneficial. Students who pursue Honours degree get the edge over those who are pursuing normal bachelor courses. Doing Honours means you are studying one particular subject and you are increasing your knowledge in that particular subject,'' said said Prof Hemla Agarwal, principal, Government College for Women, Parade. Other colleges are also looking forward to introduce more courses in their colleges from the next academic session.
"We have written a letter to the university to introduce more courses in our college. We are looking forward to introducing bio-technology course in our college," said Prof. Hemla Agarwal. The colleges have declared that that would try to accommodate as many students as possible.
"Maximum seats available in the Women's College at Gandhi Nagar are around 2,000. We want to accommodate maximum number of students," said Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal.
The first cut-off list will come out on June 27. Students are expecting that they would get the courses and colleges of their choice.

{{/usCountry}}" I have applied for bachelor's in science at Women College, Gandhi Nagar. I got 65% in Class 12. I am sure I will meet the cut-off,'' said Surabhi, who did her schooling from Government Girls Higher Secondary school Nagrota.
