Movements of suspected terrorists on Saturday morning were noticed by police in Hiranagar area of Kathua district, the same place where four police personnel were shot dead by terrorists on Thursday.

Police said they noticed the suspicious movements around 9:30am, following which security forces were deployed along the Jammu-Pathankot national highway.

On Thursday morning, three terrorists had infiltrated the international border in Kathua district and attacked the Hiranagar police station around 6:45am, where they had killed four police officials.

The terrorists then entered the army camp in the adjoining Samba district, where they killed four army men. The militants were later shot dead in an encounter with security forces that lasted several hours.

The attack on Thursday came just three days before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s scheduled meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, on Sunday in New York, on the sidelines of the UN general assembly meet.
