Jammu-Srinagar National Highway reopens today

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has reopened today after remainning closed for five days.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, linking Kashmir to the rest of the country, reopened on Saturday after remaining closed for five days.

Nearly 1,000 vehicles stranded on the road have been asked to move to their designations after the landslides at Panthal, 150 kms from Srinagar were cleared, officials said.

Border roads personnel made frantic efforts to clear the 300-km route of the debris from landslides, triggered by heavy rains.

They said although the road had been cleared between Ramban and Banihal area, a landslide at Panthal had blocked the road which was cleared around 4.15 pm.

Since Monday, about 1000 vehicles, mostly carrying goods, have been stranded at different points on the route.

Authorities brought to Srinagar as many as 208 tourists stranded on the highway on Friday.

They have been provided free lodging and boarding facility, an official spokesman said.

A group of 208 tourists hailing from various states of the country held up on the highway have been brought to Srinagar and are being provided free lodging and boarding facility, the spokesman said.
