They are of the opinion that if ‘no government’ prevails over one region of the state to rein in the anti-nationalism, why in the other region ‘government reacts’ to take to task even a voice raised for a right based on Indian constitution.

“We want Jammu University premises for free access to raise our concerns regarding discrimination with us on all account. We are not in favour of any political intervention in the university, but want that all elite and intellectual ideas regarding betterment of the region including issues of justifiable equity throughout be raised through the JU platform,” said Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF) president while talking to Hindustan Times.

Raising serious doubts over government’s silence over the issue, he said that everything that got promoted through separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in his rhetoric from KU premises were well known by the government.

State secretary of the Federation Sneh Lata too vociferously stressed on immediate need for elite and learned segment of the region to form a unit to raise the common issues of discrimination against Jammu and voice it for public through JU premises.

“Lets us at least see how and why government may act as a restraint for us if JU premises are used as a platform to promote nationalism and issue of discrimination against Jammu,” she said.

Monica Dhawan 22, (name changed), a JU student simply put it as a unique chance for student leaders, like minded nationalists and scholarly people to take advantage of the situation and immediately come up with a nationalistic forum laying its base in JU.

Jammu University is the main ground from where a pro-India and nationalistic ideology could be propagated and hence issues related to discrimination with Jammu could also be raised in actual perspective,” she said with patriotism “ We too want to see the government’s reaction over ‘Vande Mataram’ sung through these platforms”.

Hari Om, senior professor in department of history in JU too felt no harm in providing JU premises for promoting pro-India nationalism. “This would help in imbibing a spirit of nationalism in the students more effectively and if any thing that is pursued for the betterment of any region or the country in right perspective, I see no harm in government providing space for elite and intellectual class to voice their concerns of nationalism through this platform,” he said.
