Japan aims to defend men's tennis title

In the Busan 2002 Asian Games, Japan beat hosts South Korea to win the title.

Japanese tennis head coach Minoru Ueda has said that they expected to defend the title at the men's team event at the 15th Asian Games that started in Doha on Friday.

"We aim for the gold medal in the men's team, but the level of Asian tennis has improved, so it will be tough. We will just try to play well," said Minoru at the Khalifa Tennis Courts.

"Tennis is a game in which you can't say that you will win or lose."

In the Busan Asian Games in 2002, Japan beat hosts South Korea to win the title at the men's team event.

"We feel no pressure (as the defending champion). We are always a challenger and we look forward to the tournament."

The men's team title is up for grabs for Thailand, India, South Korea, Japan and Chinese Taipei.
