Jats-govt arrive at 'compromise' over arrested

The standoff between Jats and Haryana government over the arrests made during the agitation to press for job reservation under OBC quota tonight appeared headed towards a resolution with the authorities deciding to release the arrested.

The standoff between Jats and Haryana government over the arrests made during the agitation to press for job reservation under OBC quota tonight appeared headed towards a resolution with the authorities deciding to release the arrested.

After marathon three-hour talks held between the jats, khap members and representatives of the state government in Hisar, Haryana's Chief parliamentary Scretary Dharamveer Singh said the jats have been assured that all those members of the community, who had been arrested during the course of the agitation, would be released as per the provision of the law.

Dharamveer, along with chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's OSD M S Chopra and fortmer Hisar MP Jai Parkash, held talks with the jats in a bid to resolve the deadlock.

He said jats had also been assured that Haryana government would forward the recommendation of the state backweard class commission's report on reservation for jats to the Centre as soon as it receives the same.

The body of the youth killed in alleged police firing this week continued to be placed besides the railway tracks.

Sandeep was killed in clashes between police and protesters on March 6.
