Being the first player over 100 years and only the third in history to carry the bat through the innings on Test debut, Javed seems to have mastered the art of patience.

His meticulous concentration in resisting new-ball fires reminds only of religious attentiveness.

While he is neither a stylish batsman nor an exotic strokemaker, he has what it takes to frustrate even the most fearsome of pace attacks.

His disciplined approach means extra work for the opponent to try to get his wicket early on, when he is most vulnerable. Once settled, it is difficult to dislodge him, even with his limited footworks.

His resilience is exemplified in being one of only four Bangladeshis to have scored a Test century and the fact that after Habibul Bashar he has the most number of high scores for Bangladesh in Tests.

In the second Test versus Pakistan at Peshware in 2002, he scored 119 batting for 497 minutes — the second longest time at the crease by a Bangladesh Test player.
