Jawan arrested for kidnapping, mother ends life

The mother of a Territorial Army jawan allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison after her son was arrested for kidnapping a girl in Mendhar area of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

Shakti Sharma, the jawan of 163 TA battalion, had come to his home in Mendhar in Poonch district on leave and had allegedly kidnapped a local girl Azra Khatoon, they said adding, he was planning to take her at his place of posting in Srinagar.

However, police acting on a report filed by the family members of the girl arrested the jawan.

The jawan was released for a short while to perform the last rites of his mother.
