Joining issue with AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday described as an "unadulterated lie" her remarks that there was no fallow land in the state to implement his party's electoral promise of giving two acres of land each to landless poor.

Jayalalithaa herself had stated in the state assembly that the government would make efforts to convert 20 lakh hectares of fallow land for horticulture cultivation and make the state the horticulture hub.

"If she says that it was due to a slip of the tongue, the state budget itself had mentioned that there is fallow land to the extent of 20 lakh hectares, which is around 50 lakh acres," he said.

Lashing out at Karunanidhi for his poll promise, Jayalalithaa, addressing campaign meetings in Tirunelveli district yesterday, said there was no land for free distribution. Late Chief Minister MG Ramachandran and herself had distributed all available lands, she said.
