BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, who is close to DMK chief M Karunanidhi and the Maran family received a jolt on Wednesday, when Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa imposed heavy taxes on their lines of businesses.

The announcement of a 25% levy on Indian Premier League matches played in Tamil Nadu will affect the revenue generation by the champion team Chennai Super Kings, whose promoter is Srinivasan.
Also, the 30% entertainment tax on DTH services will hurt the business of the Maran family, which owns Sun Direct, the largest in the field in Tamil Nadu. Earlier, the rate was 12%.
The tax bill was passed in the assembly’s budget session, which concluded on Wednesday.
Tamil Nadu commercial taxes minister A Krishnamurthy said the state was following the example of some other states in this regard.
Sun Direct, a subsidiary of Sun TV, is posing a challenge to state-sponsored Arasu Cable, relaunched by the government recently. Sun TV recently cut the prices of its DTH service.
