Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday moved an application before the special court here seeking documents on the basis of which the government wanted to withdraw the London Hotel case, one of the disproportionate asset cases filed against her.
A Navneeth Krishna, counsel for Jayalalithaa in an application filed before the Special Court Judge A T Manoli trying the disproportionate asset (DA) cases sought copies of statements of Subramanyam, an officer from the Indian Revenue Service who investigated the London Hotel case, statements of witnesses and other documents pertaining to the case.
Krishna, arguing on the application, submitted that the prosecution has only filed for withdrawal of the London Hotel case but not furnished to the court statement of Subramanyam and other witnesses.
The Tamil Nadu government filed an application before the court on April 30, seeking permission to withdraw the London Hotel case citing "paucity of witnesses" as the reason.
Murthy Rao, the counsel for Sudhakaran, one of the accused in the DA case, submitted to the court that unless the doucments and statements are furnished the application for withdrawal of London Hotel case should not be considered.
