In a message to the workers, who have called an indefinite strike from tomorrow, she wished the trade union leaders success in their strike.

Calling upon the leaders to continue their stir till the Centre withdrew its decision, she said all trade unions, irrespective of their party affiliations, should fight united.

Expressing her inability to join the ongoing fast by the employees, she said though she could not make it, she fully supported their cause.

Jayalalithaa, who has already condemned the Centre's move, said she always opposed disinvestments in NLC and firmly believed that disinvestments in profit-making public sector units was detrimental to the state's interests.

Releasing a copy of a letter she wrote to the then Prime Minister AB Vajpayee on July 3, 2003, she said her government opposed the disinvestments proposed then and sought his intervention to ensure that NLC continued to operate in the public sector.
