NATIONAL PRESIDENT of the Janta Dal (U), Sharad Yadav on Sunday said that his party was working to form a non-Samajwadi Party, non-Bahujan Samaj Party and non- Congress front in Uttar Pradesh before the Vidhan Sabha election.
People want change and his party would try to put an alternative before them, he said, adding that ever since the SP came to power, the common man had been exploited.
“Starvation has claimed hundreds of farmers’ lives, criminals are ruling the roost, the State Government has failed to clear the arrear of the sugarcane farmers and land mafia is grabbing the land of farmers,” he alleged.
Terming BSP chief Mayawati a non-political personality Yadav said that had she been a political leader, she would have never said that Muslims generally voted for the fundamentalist leader. She was charging money for giving party tickets, he rued.
Talking to media persons, Yadav said that the JD (U) would oppose the establishment of special economic zones (SEZ) and retail outlets of corporate house in various corners of the country.
The prices of domestic articles had skyrocketed and the Central Government had failed to control them, he alleged.
“Food security of the country is at risk and government is doing nothing to ensure that interests of the poor are protected. I am not against the market, but one should understand that western countries that follow the policy of open market have ensured social security of its citizens. People in the developed countries are prepared to face the challenges of globalisation,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}“But in India, the government does not give any type of security to the people. Eighty per cent of the population is struggling for a two-time meal. The western countries are eager to enter the Indian market and companies like Wall Mart are trying to grab the retail market and the Central Government is maintaining ominous silence on the issue,” he said. Even the Left Front that was supporting the UPA government was not opposing the new economic policy of the government, he added.
“If the government fails to act, large number of people would be rendered jobless and people would starve to death,” he warned. The Congress leaders were trying to create confusion among people by giving separate statements on the issue, he said.
He said that the JD (U) would organise demonstration and dharna on December 17 in New Delhi to protest against the establishment of the SEZ. The party and the Apna Dal leaders would address public meetings in various parts of the State on December 19 and 20.
