British novelist Jeffrey Archer won a cybersquatting case on Wednesday, gaining the rights to the contested Internet domain name www.jeffreyarcher.com.
The address had been registered by Canadian operator Celebrity 1000, which used the celebrity's trademark to shift surfers to its own site www.celebrity1000.com, an international arbitrator said in its ruling.
The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), whose arbitration centre resolves disputes over domain names, said the domain name was registered and used "in bad faith" and ordered it be transferred to the author and former politician.
Celebrity 1000 has also used the names of other celebrities including Larry King, Pamela Anderson and Michael Crichton to re-direct browsers to its site, the United Nations agency said.
