JeM commander among three killed in J&K

Three militants, including a self-styled tehsil commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit, were killed and six arrested.

Three militants, including a self-styled tehsil commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit, were killed and six persons arrested in separate operations by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir since Wednesday night, a police spokesman said.

Tehsil commander of JeM Javaid Iqbal alias Atish was killed in a gun battle with security forces at Navapachi-Marwah in Doda district on Wednesday, the spokesman said.

He said an AK rifle, two magazines and 20 rounds were recovered from the slain militant, a resident of Sangram Bhata area of Kishtwar who was active in the area for the last several years.

Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants Mohammad Yousuf Piswal alias Altaf and Mohammad Ashraf Khan were killed in a two-hour long encounter with security forces in Bandipora area of Baramulla district on Wednesday night, the spokesman said.

He said two AK rifles, two magazines, 134 rounds and four grenades were recovered from them. However, residents of the area staged a demonstration alleging that Khan was a civilian.

They had gone to attend a meeting with LeT cadres operating in the area and a pistol, one magazine, six rounds, a cellphone and some documents were recovered from them, the spokesman said adding, Akhter had earlier served prison terms twice for her links with terrorists.
