Yet another star makes that model trek to tinseltown. This time around it’s Jesse Randhawa’s turn to take her first bow on celluloid in Nabh Kumar Raju’s Chot. Jesse, a headturner on Delhi ramp until recently, admits that she had the option of doing the “glam girl act in her very first film but minds the label that comes with it. “Chances are I would have been branded as a glamour girl. In Chot, I play a hardhitting reporter who is a woman of substance and has to do a serious, investigative story. It was a learning experience working with actors like Ashutosh Rana in my very first film.”

Jesse who’s also going to begin shooting for Anurag Kashyap’s Gulal pretty soon is kicked about her college girl “act. Anurag is one of the most talented directors in town and I have been wanting to do a film with him for sometime. Kaykay Menon, Antra Mali and Aditya Shrivastav are wonderful co-actors.”

She admits that thanks to model-turned-stars like Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra the film industry is more amenable to people like her: “I don’t think the taboo exists anymore. The mental block has cleared up and models have proved they can act. For us, being camera friendly is an asset but if star kids can do films why can’t we? We are also hardworking and serious about what we do. So far I’ve been receiving favourable reaction from most people and I am meeting.”

Jesse spend her growing up years in Delhi had been given lots of feelers but wanted to be “different. It’s easy to take the simple route and do films that establish you firmly in the mainstream mode, but I’d rather do interesting roles in the beginning so that people take you seriously.”

And yes, Jesse also wouldn’t mind playing the numbers game and romp home as the queen of the Bollywood marquee: “Who doesn’t want to step into Madhuri Dixit’s shoes? But I’d rather do good roles instead.” Pity, we’ve heard all those lines before!
