The prosecution in the Jessica Lall murder case on Thursday contended before the Delhi High Court that the conduct of those charged in the crime, including prime accused Manu Sharma, clearly indicated their involvement.
"The conduct of the accused persons after the crime positively strengthens the substantial evidence produced by the prosecution in the case," Delhi police counsel Mukta Gupta told a Division Bench of Justices RS Sodhi and PK Bhasin.
She argued that "Manu had fled from the spot with his friends immediately after the incident, leaving behind his Tata Safari car in the parking lot of Tamarind Court and was absconding for the next five days as he was the culprit. He avoided arrest."
Gupta said searches were conducted at various places to trace his whereabouts. On April 30, 1999 policemen were sent to his residential addresses in Chandigarh, a farm house in Sambhalkha near Palam village, Delhi and Piccadilly Agro Industries in Karnal.
"No information about Manu was given to the police by his family members, including father Venod Sharma and after remaining elusive for five days he surrendered before a Chandigarh court," she argued.

Besides, details of mobile calls of the accused had also given a "clear picture" to the police that they had made several calls on each others mobiles which were "frantic", she argued.
