Following the footsteps of Air India, which had made similar cut a few days ago, both Jet Airways and its wholly- owned subsidiary JetLite "will drop fuel surcharge by Rs 400 across all domestic sectors," an airlines spokesperson said.

The fuel surcharge effective from tomorrow would be Rs 1,950 for flights on sectors less than 750 km and Rs 2,700 beyond that, the spokesperson said.

Earlier, the company denied reports that there was a cut in basic fares. "The report is incorrect. There is no cut in basic fares in Jet or JetLite," the spokesperson said.

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel had a while ago appealed to all major airlines to make air travel affordable as fuel prices had come down substantially.
