Private carrier Jet Airways got a reprieve with the British government giving it a clean chit on security clearance, following detention of one of its employees in London in connection with the plot to bomb some trans-Atlantic flights and his subsequent release.

A letter to this effect was written over a week ago by British High Commissioner Michael Arthur to Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel saying Jet Airways had always taken the security measures required under British laws, sources said.

The letter came in the backdrop of reports that the British authorities had raised security concerns, following the detention of one of its employees in London in connection with the alleged plot. The employee was subsequently released as nothing suspicious was found against him.

"I have checked this out with the responsible authorities in London and can confirm that there are no such concerns with Jet Airways, who remain very welcome to fly to the UK.
Indeed, we have always found them cooperative airline partners and Jet Airways have made the security measures we require," the letter said, describing the reports as "misleading".
