In yet another case of a jilted lover attacking a girl for rejecting his marriage proposal, a person opened fire with a country-made weapon causing severe injuries to the girl.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Raibidpura village under Unn police station limit, about 20km north of Khargone district headquarters.

The victim, identified as 20-year-old Arpita Gurjjar, a resident of Raibidpura village, was approached by 22-year old Deepak, who lives in the same village.

After the incident, the accused fled from the scene when locals rushed to the rescue of the girl.

According to the girl’s relative, she is still critical as she has sustained injuries near her ear. The police said the victim, a first year bachelor of science student, rejected Deepak’s proposal a couple of times. Failing to accept rejection, Deepak had threatened her three-four times in the past six months.

On Saturday, when Arpita was going to college, Deepak was waiting for her at the bus stop. He opened fire at her but she had a narrow escape as the bullet passed close to her ear. She received injuries on her ear and head.
