Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik on Friday courted arrest along with 25 supporters to highlight the “deteriorating human rights conditions and the government’s failure to take action against those responsible for killing of innocent civilians in Kashmir”.
Immediately after the Friday prayers, around 50 JKLF activists led by Malik started a march from the party headquarters at Srinagar’s Maisuma area towards Lal Chowk.
A heavy deployment of the policemen and CRPF personnel immediately rounded up the JKLF activists, who on their own boarder police vehicles.
“A systematic annihilation of new generation is underway in Kashmir. Scores of civilians have been killed in fake encounters and police action and till date the culprits have not even been identified,” said Malik adding the JKLF will not act as a mute spectator to this injustice and oppression.
The JKLF activists shouted pro-independence slogans and against the security forces for alleged violations of human rights in Kashmir before being whisked away in police vehicles from Lal Chowk.
The JKLF activists also raised slogans like "revoke Armed Forces Special Powers Act".
Malik said their purpose was to draw the attention of the world community towards "unabated" human rights violations at the hands of security forces in Kashmir.
