Normal life in Kashmir was affected on Saturday due to a strike called by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front on the 28th death anniversary of its founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat.
Shops, banks and other business and commercial establishments remained closed due to the strike, supported by both factions of Hurriyat Conference.
Transport services were also affected in the absence of public conveyance. However, private vehicles could be seen plying on the roads in the summer capital Srinagar and other parts of the Valley.
Police has sealed off the Lal Chowk area as a precautionary measure apprehending protest by JKLF activists.
Bhat was hanged in Delhi's Tihar jail on this day in 1984 following conviction in a murder case.
JKLF activists had on Friday made an attempt to take out a rally from Maisuma headquarters to the local office of UN military observers group at Sonawar, but it was foiled by police.
Three JKLF leaders, including chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, were detained, leading to clashes between party workers and police in which five policemen were injured, officials said.
