Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi has developed a chest congestion four days after he underwent surgery for spine injuries suffered during an accident on April 11, but is fairly stable, neurosurgeon Dr CE Deopujari, who is attending on him, said on Thursday.

"He is fairly stable and we are helping him out with suction to get rid of the extra fluid in the lungs and also giving support for breathing," Dr Deopujari of Bombay Hospital said.

The Congress leader would continue to be in the ICU for some more time as he has developed chest infection, Deopujari said adding that doctors had on Wednesday planned to shift him out of ICU so that he could interact with people.

"Jogi has developed a chest infection. So he would continue to be in the ICU for some more time," the neurosurgeon said.

He is fatigued because of the chest infection, the surgeon said adding, Jogi's other health parameters are normal.

The 59-year-old former Chief Minister had suffered severe spinal and head injuries on April 11 when the car in which he was travelling from Rajim to Deobhog in Chhattisgarh, dashed against a roadside tree.

Jogi was flown to Mumbai the same evening and operated by a team of five doctors, headed by Dr Deopujari.
