Jogi "instead of sticking to his chair should have resigned and faced the charges. But unfortunately this did not happen. The chargesheeted Chief Minister continues to be in office," he told an election rally here, his first in Chhattisgarh, which goes to polls on December one.

Recalling Jogi's allegation that the Intelligence Bureau had launched a campaign to malign him and other Congress leaders, Vajpayee said he had asked the Cabinet Secretary to examine the charges made in a letter by Jogi to him earlier this year.

"CBI was entrusted the probe and the investigating agency found that the papers submitted by the Chief Minister along with his letter were forged. Why should anyone try to defame a Chief Minister?", he said.
