The district and sessions judge U V Bakre heard arguments in the anticipatory bail petition filed by John and adjourned the case for Tuesday as the accused was not present in the court.

John (34) is booked for raping a 25-year-old Russian girl by spiking her drink at Colva beach on the night of December 1.

The Crime Branch pleading for custodial interrogation stated that material evidence required in the case is yet to be recovered from the accused's car, in which the girl was allegedly raped.

John is a high-profile politician from south Goa and had unsuccessfully contested 2007 Goa Legislative Assembly polls on a ticket of 'Save Goa Front' political outfit, floated by Public Works Department minister Churchill Alemao.

The girl, in her statement to the police, said that John allegedly raped her in the car.
