FORMER UNION HRD minister and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Wednesday questioned the Manmohan Singh Government’s reason for not implementing the increased quota in minority educational institutions.
Nobody can oppose the Centre’s move to increase quota in educational institutions, but there was no justification in keeping the minority institutions away from the jurisdiction of the proposed law seeking increase quota in admissions in the premier educational institutions,” he said.
He was addressing a function organised by ‘Kalyan Karoti,’ an organization working for the welfare of handicapped, to celebrate former urban development minister, Lalji Tandon’s 71st birthday, here today. Joshi also laid stress on quality and compulsory schooling of the children belonging to the deprived sections .
On the PM’s call for checking role of money power in politics, Joshi said it could not be controlled till the market economy was there. Speaking on the occasion, Tandon said he was upset over the Meerut tragedy and called upon his supporters to contribute something to help the victims and their family members. A total of Rs 1.30 lakh was collected immediately and handed over to Joshi for sending the same to Meerut. The ‘Kalyan Karoti’ distributed tri-cycles to the disabled.
Condemning the Meerut administration for its ‘inhuman’ attitude towards the family members of the victims and its ‘barbaric’ act of removing evidences by bulldozers, Joshi also expressed serious concern over deteriorating law and order situation in the State and cited Mau and Aligarh riots, terrorist attack in Varanasi, lathicharge on traders in Mathura and now the fire incident in Meerut, to prove his point.

{{/usCountry}}Urging the Central government to interfere in UP affairs, Dr Joshi reiterated that the BJP would support the Congress if it brought the issue of imposition of the President’s Rule in the Lok Sabha. Dr Joshi, however, disputed the claim of LK Advani that he had opposed the release of dreaded terrorist Azhar Masood after the infamous Kandhar plane hijacking.
