JU students bag ISCA young scientist, best paper presentation awards

Jammu University vice-chancellor RD Sharma facilitated Ishya Devi and Surjeet Singh Shan, students of the geology department, who had earlier bagged two prestigious awards of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) in Earth System Science Section at the 102nd session of Indian Science Congress, recently held in Mumbai.

Jammu University vice-chancellor RD Sharma facilitated Ishya Devi and Surjeet Singh Shan, students of the geology department, who had earlier bagged two prestigious awards of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) in Earth System Science Section at the 102nd session of Indian Science Congress, recently held in Mumbai.

Ishya Devi, a research scholar in the geology department, was awarded the most prestigious ISCA young scientist award for the year 2014-15 in Earth System Science Section. She won it on her research work on "Genesis of carbonate hosted Pb-Zn mineralisation in Reasi, J&K" and became the first ISCA young scientist awardee in Earth System Science Section from J&K.

Another award for the best poster presentation in the Earth System Sciences section has also been clinched by the geology department. Surjeet Singh Shan presented his paper on "Gem characterisation and genesis of moonstone from the Lokai-Indarwa of great mica belt, Jharkhand" and won the best paper presentation award.
