Both the countries should work together for development and prosperity in South Asia, he said, according to Pakistan's Online news agency.

President Musharraf expressed these views while welcoming the new Indian envoy to Pakistan Satyabrata Pal, who presented his credentials to him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Pakistan and India are two important countries and both the nations should work jointly for peace and stability in the region, Musharraf said.

He said this was possible only when the core issue of Kashmir was settled in an amicable way.

He said Pakistan wants to settle all outstanding issues with India with sincerity and duress.

However the need of the hour is of confidence building measures and the composite dialogue process should go hand-in-hand.

Musharraf said the Pakistani and Indian leaderships are sincere in settling disputes adding that he welcomes Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's latest statement in which he talked about friendship and peace.

The Indian High Commissioner lauded President Musharraf's peace initiative and his pledge to continue the Pakistan-India dialogue process.
