K'taka legislature session from Thursday

The opposition in Karnataka is all set to train its guns on the BJP government on an array of issues, including power crisis, financial crunch and recent communal flare up in Mysore, as the extended budget session of legislature gets underway on Thursday.

The opposition in Karnataka is all set to train its guns on the BJP government on an array of issues, including power crisis, financial crunch and recent communal flare up in Mysore, as the extended budget session of legislature gets underway on Thursday.

The Assembly will see former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah don the role of opposition Congress leader in place of Mallikarjun Kharge, who contested the Lok Sabha polls and became the Union Labour Minister.

Likewise, former minister HD Revanna is replacing his brother -- former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, both sons of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, as leader of the JDS group.

Kumaraswamy has been elected to the Lok Sabha. Performance of Siddaramaiah, a former finance minister with the distinction of presenting seven budgets, would also be under scrutiny from his own party, which is struggling to take on a combative BJP after it put up an impressive show in Lok Sabha polls winning 19 of the 28 seats.
