President APJ Abdul Kalam donned a variety of roles on Thursday at the Children's Science Congress. There were precepts, tales, exercises and even home work for the 750-odd students as Kalam interacted with the children.
Narrating inspiring events from the lives of the Father of Green Revolution, Norman E Borlaug and mathematics genius Ramanujam, Kalam told a spell-bound audience to inculcate 'scientific magnanimity' the ability to recognise the best of knowledge without any reservations.
At the same time, the academician in the President wanted the teachers to spot the talent lying hidden in a student. "Ramanujam had failed in all subjects except mathematics. It was his headmaster who, defying opposition, gave him admission in high school," he said. Kalam also entrusted the parents with the task of reforming children.
