Kalam greets citizens on Diwali eve

He said the 'Festival of lights' should open the heart of the people with compassion for the needy.

President APJ Abdul Kalam greeted citizens on Friday on the eve of Diwali, the festival of lights, saying that the festival should open people's heart with compassion for the needy.

Extending his warm greetings and good wishes to Indians in the country and abroad, the President said: "Diwali, the festival of lights, is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. May this year's festival open the people's hearts with compassion for the needy and spare time to share their joy and happiness."

"Happiness which spreads from home to home ultimately leads to a happy society and a happy nation," he said in the message.
