President APJ Abdul Kalam will undertake a two-day visit to Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, one of the worst hit in the December Tsunami disaster, from June 30 to review the permanent rehabilitation programmes for housing, education, fisheries and employment there.
Before commencing on the tour, the President received a detailed briefing in Delhi about the various rehabilitation programmes in Nagapattinam District from representatives of the Union Ministries of Home Affairs and Agriculture, the Planning Commission, the Department of Meteorology, the Tamil Nadu State Government, HUDCO, TIFAC and the United Nations Development Programme, an official spokesman said in Delhi.
He also visit the Community Centres there, set-up by the Technology Information Forecasting Assessment Council (TIFAC) and will also interact with Self Help Groups.
The President's schedule at Akkaraipettai will also include a visit to the Floor Reaction Orthosis (FRO) Camp set-up by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) with NIMS.
His day in Nagapattinam District will continue with a visit to the Annai Satya Orphanage for an interaction with children. This will be followed by an interaction with NGOs and a visit to the permanent shelter construction site at Samanthapettai followed by an interaction with local people at Silladi.
He will also attend the centenary celebrations of the National Higher Secondary School in Nagapattinam. Also in the itinerary are visits to the Velankanni Church, Nagore Dargah and a temple.
