Three BJP candidates— Ramapati Ram, Ashok Dhavan and Ram Naresh Rawat — filed papers for the Vidhan Parishad. The party is sure to win two Vidhan Parishad seats with its strength in the Vidhan Sabha. But, how it will mobilise support for the third candidate is not clear even to the party itself.

Insiders said Rawat’s nomination was the result of infighting. It would lead to cross-voting by legislators and violation of the party whip, they added.

Owing to secret voting in the Vidhan Parishad election, there will be no way to find out whether the legislators followed the whip.

The Independent Rajya Sabha candidate is Sudhanshu, a Delhi-based industrialist.

His name has been proposed mainly by Independents who will play a crucial role in his election.

His proposers in the second set of papers are Shyam Sunder Sharma (Loktantrik Congress), Raghuraj Pratap Singh, Madan Bhaiya, Dhananjaya Singh, Vijay Singh, Ram Nath Saroj,Jitendra Jaiswal, Hoshiar Singh and Devendra Nath (all Independents).
