CPM general secretary Prakash Karat said he will move Parliament against the Election Commission's "discriminatory attitude" towards Kerala and West Bengal, where elections have been staggered into several phases.

Karat told reporters here on Sunday that the EC, which singled out the two states for the piecemeal poll exercise, tried to convey that the two Left-leaning states were incapable of conducting free and fair elections.

All the polling stations in the Marxist heartland of Kannur and majority in Kasaragod were declared sensitive. Kannur had witnessed a spate revenge killing by the CPM and the BJP and the toll has already crossed 200 since 1968.

Echoing the supremo, state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition Leader VS Achuthanandan, the CM aspirant, said this was aimed at keeping off the Left supporters from voting.

"People wouldn't risk their lives and go out to vote if they sense danger. They would rather surrender their voting right than putting themselves into trouble," Vijayan said.

"The EC is being carried away by the Congress propaganda," Achuthanandan said in Kannur.

His remarks came in the wake of the Election Commission calling re-poll on Tuesday at one booth each in Nadapuram and Perinthalmanna that went to polls in the second phase on April 29.

The LDF had won 10 of the 15 seats restricting the UDF wave in 2001 when the Congress-led front won 100 of the 140 Assembly seats.
