A month after saying that her daughter wanted Mohammed Amir Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist arrested in connection with the Mumbai terror attack, to be given another chance, Kavita Karkare, the wife of slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare, has said it was imperative that he be tried and hanged as early as possible.

Kavita said this in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.

“Kasab has been the lone terrorist who has been caught. It is necessary that he is tried and hanged at the earliest. Any delay in this is likely to fuel unnecessary strife and will be dangerous for the country,” Kavita wrote in the letter.

Kavita had, in an interview to a TV channel, earlier said that her daughter wanted to change Kasab’s hate spewing ideology.

“As a mother I feel proud that being Hemant Karkare’s daughter she still said that. Then why can’t we together change ideologies towards terrorism?” she had said in the interview.

In her letter, Kavita also took the government to task saying it was no use honouring 26/11 martyrs with Ashok Chakras and at the same time do nothing to spruce up the police force.

Kavita also asked the state government to help improve the living and working conditions of policemen and their families.
