Karnataka schools, colleges shut on Sep 24, 25

The Karnataka government on Wednesday declared a two-day holiday for schools and colleges in the state on Friday and Saturday, to maintain law and order in view of the Allahabad High Court pronouncing verdict on the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute on Friday.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa told reporters that it was a precautionary measure to ensure that no untoward incidents take place following the verdict.

The government has also imposed prohibitory orders during daytime on September 24 and 25 under Section 144, which prohibits assembly of five or more persons.

A security blanket was thrown around Bangalore as around 20,000 policemen have been deployed to maintain law and order in the IT city.
