Two debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in Madya district of Karanataka on Saturday amid rising incidents of farmers killing themselves in recent weeks.

Eleven farmers have allegedly committed suicide in the last 22 days, including two more on Saturday, in the sugarcane belt of Mandya district in Karnataka where the cane growers are in distress with mills not paying their dues and not crushing the cane.

The deceased have been identified as Ramakrishna of Ipanahalli and Chinnaswamy of Kempina koppalu village, police said.

Ramakrishna, 40, hanged himself from the ceiling fan and 48-year-old Chinnaswamy consumed poison, they said.

Ramakrishna had borrowed Rs 4 lakh from banks and private firms and Chinnaswamy Rs 3.5 lakh from private money lenders, police said.
