Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi has filed two defamation cases against AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa for her statements during the elections which he said were defamatory in nature. In two complaints filed against her with the principal sessions judge, Karunanidhi objected to her allegations during electioneering that the DMK planned to unleash violence on the polling day.

One of the complaints said that Jayalalithaa had alleged that the chief minister had directed the chief secretary to reduce the fees of Rs 300 for ex-servicemen deployed on election duty as they were standing without any work. She also alleged that they would go on strike weakening security for elections.

"Her statement blatantly contained false and baseless allegations," Karunanidhi's complaint filed in the principal sessions judge court on Wednesday.

His other complaint pertains to a statement in AIADMK party organ, Namadhu MGR, in which she alleged that the chief minister had threatened the Election Commission and with the help of a union minister was trying to create panic among the voters.

The chief minister, through the city public prosecutor, wanted action taken against Jayalalithaa for her baseless and false allegations that have dented his reputation.
