As part of his birthday celebrations, he inaugurated a scheme to provide rice through public distribution system (PDS) at Rs two per kilo, thereby fulfilling one of the DMK's major poll promises.

Early in the morning, Karunanidhi visited the memorials of social reformer late EV Ramaswami and his political mentor late CN Annadurai and placed wreaths on the memorials.

Scores of DMK activists thronged the DMK headquarters here to greet their leader on his birthday. Several Central and state ministers also wished the DMK chief.
