'Kashmir to greet new-year with snow'

Tourists present in the Valley or scheduled to visit on new-year eve this winter are excited as weather office in Srinagar has predicted snow for the next few days.

If weatherman is to be believed, Kashmir is likely to welcome new-year with fresh snow.

Tourists present in the Valley or scheduled to visit on new-year eve this winter are excited as weather office in Srinagar has predicted snow for the next few days. No snowfall on the eve of Christmas had disappointed many nature enthusiasts.

“We missed the opportunity to decorate a Snow Santa Claus on the banks of Dal-lake . At-least now we can feel the soothing snowflakes as we enter 2013,” said Rajesh Sharma, a businessman from Delhi.

Metrological centre issued a weather forecast predicting rain and Snow at many places over the state from
Thursday evening.

Weather in capital Srinagar will be generally cloudy with Haze, the weather report said.

A cold wave was sweeping the state with night temperatures consistently remaining below zero for the past many days.

“The temperature will rise by two to three degrees Celsius after the precipitation,” said a weather official.

The minimum temperature was minus 2.9 degrees Celsius in Srinagar Wednesday. It was minus 6.5 in Pahalgam, minus 7 in Gulmarg, minus 13.8 in Leh and minus 15.4 in Kargil town.
