The victim has since been medically examined and is now in protective custody of the police at an undisclosed location. Police are refusing to divulge where she was found.

The police will submit a report to court in this connection on Monday, sources said.

“I would confirm whether she has been found on Monday,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Central Region) Sadanand Date.

The victim was declared untraceable after she was found missing from the Naigaon address she had provided to the police in her complaint against Kasliwal. The police have since then been slammed by the trial court and the Bombay High Court for failing to trace her.

In over two years, the police submitted nine reports to the court saying they searched for her in Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore and Belgaum, but failed to locate her.

On July 15, 2008, the police told the court that they had inquired about her whereabouts at Bangalore and Belgaum and met her relatives staying there. But the relatives reportedly told the police that she had left in a few days to avoid embarrassing them.

On February 2 this year when the police visited Kolkata, the victim’s last known address, the building in question was under renovation.

“We tried our best. We went to different places and sometimes visited a place more than four times,” said Senior Police Inspector Bharat Worlikar. “Our team went to the place every time there was a minute possibility of finding her.”
