NOTED KATHAK dancer and Padmashree awardee Shovana Narayan enthralled the school kids with her meticulous performance at Agrasen Girls’ Inter College in Varanasi on Saturday.

She started her performance with Shiv Vandana and later performed Amad, Tod and Paran. Her different gestures, steps and expressions during the dance performance was quite appreciated by the audience. The programme was organised under the auspices of Spic Macay.
Shovana, who was conferred upon with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by the President of India in 1999-2000, presented Harihar Paran and Shiv Paran. She concluded her programme by presenting a dance drama based on a story of Lord Krishna.
Earlier, talking to mediapersons on the school premises, she said that the traditional classical dance has its own importance and western music could not reduce its importance.
“The Western dance and music changes with span of time whereas classical dance has stability with its historical identity,” she said and termed Western dance as a ‘water bubble’. “Indian classical dances have deepness like an ocean,” said Shovana.
She said it was difficult to achieve name and fame through classical dance in a short span of time. “Actually, the training of classical dance takes a long period of time,” she said.
