The BMC administration has proposed the by-laws known as Bhopal Municipal Corporation (Prevention of garbage throwing at public toads/lakes/water bodies) by-laws 2006 to check filth creators. Similar by-laws are already in effect in some other cities. However, the proposed

by-laws would be implemented only after approval by BMC Council and subsequent ratification by the State Government. The council would discuss the issue during its next meeting on January 28.

It is proposed that throwing of garbage like papers, piece of glass, cartons, canes, foodstuff, pouches of food items, carry bags of polythene and any other type of garbage at public roads, lakes and water bodies would be prohibited. Besides, throwing handbills, pamphlets and piece of papers at these places through moving vehicles will also invite fine.

There are certain rules in this regard but not being implemented properly. So, officials should be made responsible for implementation. Other BJP corporators are also likely to support this proposal.
