Former chief minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit said her party had given outside support to the Aam Aadmi Party to deliver on the promises it had made in its election manifesto but Arvind Kejriwal tried to act beyond the Constitution.
“If he had followed the Constitution and its norms, his government would have survived. But his government lost majority on the floor of the house and he resigned on his own,” said the 75-year-old leader, who governed Delhi for 15 years.
Dikshit had lost to Arvind Kejriwal by more than 25,000 votes from New Delhi assembly constituency in the December elections.
The Aam Aadmi Party government resigned late on Friday evening after it failed to introduce the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Delhi Assembly.
Dikshit said her party had offered conditional support to AAP on 18 points. “They had promised to take some good people-friendly measures. But I don’t think they succeeded in doing so. Waiving electricity bills of 25,000-odd people who supported them in their agitation, cannot be called a people-friendly measure. What is the fault of honest people who pay their bills on time? Why should they be differentiated against?” Dikshit asked.
Dikshit contradicted Kejriwal’s remarks that she passed 13 money bills without referring them to the central government before laying them on the floor of the House. “We have never done anything which was against the procedure,” Dikshit said.

With the union cabinet accepting the L-G’s recommendation to impose President’s rule in Delhi, the Capital may witness fresh assembly elections along with the Lok Sabha elections. Dikshit said her party was ready to go in for elections. “We are ready for elections. We will try to do our best,” she added.
