Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had to undergo a surgery in Davos, Switzerland, early on Saturday after falling in the snow and injuring his hip there.
Chandy fell on Friday night in freezing Davos where he has gone to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) meet to project his state as an investment destination.
He underwent a surgery on his hip early on Saturday and is fine now, MC Mathew, a Chandy aide, said.
"We are told that he slipped and fell, injuring his hip, while moving from one meeting venue to another at Davos. The doctors have done an immediate surgery. We are told that he is fine and recovering well," said Mathew.
Chandy's daughter, Achu Oommen Chandy, and his private secretary, Dinesh Sharma, are accompanying him. He arrived in Davos on January 26 and was to return on January 31, but his return could now be delayed.
Chandy, whose usual dress is a homespun cotton shirt and dhoti, had been looking to borrow a warm suit to wear in Davos. Speaking before his departure, he had said his bag to Davos would have his trademark khadi shirt and dhoti (mundu).
"I don't have any suit. May be someone would lend me one when I reach Switzerland. There are a lot of Keralites there and I know they also know that I don't wear pants or suits," Chandy had said.

{{/usCountry}}But he was aware that since he would be speaking before a high-powered audience of business people and world leaders who would be attired for the occasion in dark suits and ties, his dress too must match the occasion.
"If I remember correctly, the last time I wore a pant was in 1978 when on a visit to USSR. That was not mine, it was a borrowed one from (Congress colleague) Vayalar Ravi," added Chandy.
Chandy normally gives the least importance to things sartorial.
