Condolences and expressions of shock have been pouring in after a fire at a Kerala temple killed at least 83 people were killed injured 350 early on Sunday morning.

More than 100 people are feared dead in the fire that broke out at the Puttingal Devi temple in the coastal town of Paravur, Kollam district after firecrackers were burst as part of a festival.
The Prime Minister described the situation as “heartrending and shocking,” before assuring the state government that the Centre would assist them in any way possible. The PM announced that he would be travelling to Kollam to assess the situation.
Initial reports have suggested that the temple authorities did not have the permission to burst firecrackers.
