Khaki terror in Nighasan town of UP's Lakhimpur-Kheri district isn’t confined to a 14-year-old girl hanging from the tree at the police station. From intimidation to exploitation of the locals, the people here say there is nothing that these men in uniform are not capable of.

“Loot and murder are the order of the day,” says Mohammad Shamim, a resident.

“The innocent are often harassed.”

Recently, a man was allegedly beaten up when he visited the police station to lodge a complaint.

Men dressed in khaki have allegedly committed robberies.

“We do not know if the police committed the crime or the criminals came in uniforms,” said Naresh Kumar, a teacher. However, no FIRs have been registered in the case so far.
