A month after their abduction by Kuki miliitants demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, three engineers were on Saturday released at Keihao in Sadar Hills area of Senapati district, official sources said.

The militants of separatist Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) freed the Assistant Engineer of the Water Supply department AK Sarat and Section officers Ksh Tombi Singh and W Bhaskar Singh before media persons.
The militants, who had kept the three in captivity for over a month, had demanded Rs 50 lakh for their release.
The sources refused to comment on how much was paid to secure their release but family and department sources said over Rs 30 lakh had been paid as ransom.
As fallout of the kidnapping, Water Supply department employees had stopped supplying water to the people for over a month to press for the release of the kidnapped employees.
The out patient departments of the two main hospitals -- Regional Institute of Medical Science and JN Hospital -- had stopped functioning because of non-availability of water because of the strike, reports said.
Many people had fallen ill and could not be given proper treatment because of the strike.
